I just found out that legendary musician James Brown, the Godfather of Soul passed away yesterday. Man what a shitty Xmas that makes! You can read more about it here. While I wasn’t much of a fan of his music, his influence is undeniable and I always enjoyed it when he was a guest on the Howard Stern show.

It’s hard to believe such a life force is gone. I think he literally worked himself to death. Just last Friday he held his annual Christmas gift give-away here in Augusta (where I live). Now he’s gone. He performed at my brothers restaurant on several occasions. He enjoyed sitting in with the jazz band and the patrons loved having him. I’m glad I got to see him in such an intimate setting. Some folks around Augusta, still subscribing to throwback racial attitudes, said his name as if it was a punchline. The reality is that the man was a legend. He was obviously subject to foibles, as we all are, but he was great for this community, this country and the world. Rest in peace Godfather.
