Anyone else see the commercial for the movie “You Got Served” and wonder “How does that stupid looking shit actually get funded to be a movie?!”

I made a ton of new Spontaneous Combustion buttons in a plethora of colors. Next time you see me out somewhere and want one, just ask.

Punk night in Evanston

Last nite there was a show at Nevin’s Live in Evantson. There were four bands:

The Krunchies were first. They played some speedy punk rock with a dual vocal attack of male vocals and female shreiks. I thought they were pretty good. They have a 7″ coming out on Criminal IQ Records very soon.

23 Skidoo were next. They couldn’t seem to decide if they wanted to be a ska band or a punk band. They started with a Bad Brains cover, played about half speed. Not good. Make up yr minds kids about what kind of band you want to be, and if you (wisely) choose a punk rock band, ditch those fucking horns.

Destroy Everything played third. My klowns never let down the people. They played a fun, energetic set and seemed to entertain the crowd, despite Hannover Fist’s incessant raising of his kilt, revealing his junk to the crowd, and blinding the people! Yes, he was going commando.

Functional Blackouts closed up shop. They played some raw, sort of low-fi punk that sounds as if it could have been recorded in the early days. I liked them nearly as much as I did their album on Criminal IQ Records. Good stuff! They seemed to have issues with the sound at the show however.

The show was lots of fun and the club is a nice place to play with decent sound. It may turn out that this becomes a regular event (sunday all ages punk shows), and I hope it does. After the show, we hung around at the bar for awhile, then drove home in the snow, which made for a long and slippery trip.

Punk artifacts

I got a package in the mail from Keith Lyons on saturday. It contained a video of Negative Element, Die Kruezen and Articles of Faith recorded in something like 1982 or 83! He has had it all these years and sent it to me for the punk vault. I captured it yesterday and will be burning it to DVD this week to preserve it for eternity. I’ll likely encode it to a much smaller video file that is suitable for putting up on the Spontaneous site in the next few weeks as well. Also in the package was the Dead Fink and Happy Toons blotter sheets from way back in high school which I’ll be scanning for the site, and some original Spontaneous Combustion stickers I gave him over 15 years ago!

I find I have far less energy, and even less motivation, in the winter time, especially when it gets this cold. We need a second sun, one that will keep this weather from ever happening.

Last nite after watching a pretty damn good Smallville, I went over to the Clown Ranch in an effort to make some new Spontaneous Combustion buttons. That turned out to be a total bust. First there was no more of the proper paper, which I could have fixed by going to the store, but the kicker was there was not enough materials to make any. What was left was reserved for a job. So I have to wait until the next batch comes in, which will hopefully be in a day or two, and then go out and get some paper so I can make them. I was hoping to get new ones made before the weekend but that isn’t looking very likely at this point.
